29: Tiny Moments

"Everything is sacred when you take time to notice.

Big love happens in the small moments."

-JJ Heller

Our life is made up of tiny moments. They are small but significant pockets of time that when put together, make our life story more meaningful. It can be found in many of our firsts, lasts, and in betweens -- like the first time we experienced snow, or the last time we saw our beloved pet, or the slow and quiet walks where we can savor the beauty around us.

In writing, tiny moments are the strongest foundations of a story, which we call seed stories. When children write, they often look at the broader picture.

Seed stories ask us to zoom in -- to look at the tiny details of the bigger picture, and to let it grow with our words. This way, we create a vivid retelling of our stories that will allow our readers to experience it as if they were with us when it was happening.

This week in Kinder 2 was abundant in seed stories -- small but significant moments that can be the foundation of bigger and deeper stories waiting to be shared.

We had a wonderful basketball clinic from the coaches and players of the Kobe Storks. The children engaged in different exercises and learned some basketball techniques. Apart from this, the highlight of the event was the bonding that the children had with some members of the team, as it proved to be such a meaningful and memorable experience for all of them.

We also celebrated Emma's birthday this week, which the children were very much excited for. We had the chance to sing Happy Birthday in different languages. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn from each other, too.

This week, we also had the opportunity to tune into our unit under the theme How we express ourselves by exploring different stories and sharing what we know about them.

We discovered that stories can be told in different ways, and that they have different elements -- like characters and places --- that make them come to life. Here are some of the reflections that the children shared:

One of my favorite places in school is the library. It is such a wonderful space that will allow anyone to travel to a different place without going anyway. This week, we spent more time in the library to explore stories that excite us, and make us travel through the pictures and the words.

Here are some of the favorite books that the children enjoy reading in the library:

On a different note, this week, we had visitors in the school yard that the children were so excited to see. Our feathery friends flew into the school and soaked up the sun.

This week, the tulips that the children planted have fully bloomed and were celebrated by many people who visited the island just to see them. The kindergarteners had a chance to see the flowers last week -- the whites and the yellows, and some colors out of place, which is the perfect imperfect mark of a child's work. They were all beautiful.

Tulips start from a little bulb, much like stories start from a little seed. Who would have thought that something that small could grow into a marvelous plant? It's the same with our life. If we make the tiny moments count, they will grow into something big and make the stories we tell, legendary.

Have a great weekend, everyone, and enjoy spring. 🌷

Spring Musical 24th and 26th April
Thank you so much to everyone who has signed up to come and see our Spring Musical on the evenings of Wednesday 24th and Friday 26th April. We are very happy to say that all the seats are now fully booked.

If you were successfully able to sign up using the link in the school blog, then we can confirm that you do have the seats you have requested. Rather than giving out individual tickets, we will be checking a list at the door for each performance to confirm that everyone is attending. In place of charging for tickets, we ask that you make a donation at the door that the children will give to a charity of their choice.

Should you have any questions at all about the musical, please do not hesitate to contact Ms Azusa, Ms Schelin, Mr Sam or Mrs Harris.
