24: Taking Action

Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world.
For, indeed, that's all who ever have.
-Margaret Mead

Inquiry-based learning is a student-centered approach where learners are actively engaged in the process of asking questions, investigating, and constructing their own understanding of concepts. The beauty of this approach is that learners are encouraged to use what they learned in the process to take action.

By taking action, learners move beyond passive recipients of knowledge and become active participants in their own learning. It empowers them to make a difference in the world and contribute to positive change. For me, this is the most meaningful, if not essential, part of learning.

Taking action can be in the form of raising awareness for a cause, volunteering, or mentoring. It can also be done in simpler ways, such as making better and informed choices, helping a friend, or extending our care for others.

This week, as we move closer to the end of our inquiry in our Sharing the planet unit, the kindergarteners took action by sharing what they have learned with the school community in the Kindergarten 2 assembly.

We began with a song that answers the question that I always ask the children:
What do you love about planet Earth?

Then, we shared what is happening to the planet we love because of the actions and choices of human beings through a shadow play.

We ended the assembly by sharing some of the sustainable actions that we have been practicing to take care of the planet Earth.

This unit has truly brought out true agents of change in the Kindergarten 2 children. It was wonderful to witness how they spread inspiration and empowered others to make small but positive choices to keep our planet exactly the way it should be: beautiful.

Have a wonderful week ahead, everyone.

Your Kindergarten teacher,
Pam

DSKI Book Day
Thursday 7th March
We will be having a lot of fun reading and book activities for the students to enjoy, helping build and foster a love of books and reading.

We also invite your children to wear their pyjamas to school. Getting into pyjamas and reading at home just before bed is something a lot of children do. So, coming into school in their pyjamas and reading will be a good way to connect this and promote the fun and joy of books.

Parents - during the day we would like to invite you to come in and read to the children. You can do so in any language that you would like to! Please bring some books from home you would be happy to share.

Just let your child's homeroom teacher know. Email them to organise a time that works for both teacher and parent.
